American tennis player Reilly Opelka was competing in the ATP Dallas Open 2022 last week. It was a great week for the big man, who was involved in some intense matches. Opelka had a brilliant run and won the tournament in fine fashion, with 6 out of the 8 sets he won in the tournament going to tie-breakers.

However, more interesting than his winning run in the tournament was a bizarre incident that took place during the post-match presentation ceremony.

Reilly Opelka pays for an absurd reason

The 24-year-old player was charged a fine for wearing his cap during the ceremony. That comes as an unusual reason for a player to be hit by a fine. Usually, players are given fines for bad conduct like breaking a racket or swearing in public. However, Opelka was hit by the fine in an unexpected manner, which is quite amusing, and Opelka saw that side as well.

He tagged the ATP tour in his tweet and added a sarcastic “Too good”, complete with a clapping emoji.

Coming to the tournament, Opelka was involved in some intense matches in Dallas. In the Round of 16 match, Reilly faced Cedrik-Marcel Stebe. He had to win the match by playing out two tie-breakers. In the following match, he was up against Adrian Mannarino.

It was a smooth performance as he won the match comfortably in straight sets. In the semifinal, he was up against a familiar opponent in John Isner. It was a thrilling match which Opelka won, 7-6(7) 7-6(22). Noticing the score of the final set, one can imagine how close a contest it must have been.

For the moment, Opelka will be seen competing tomorrow at the Delray Beach Open 2022. He will be up against Jack Sock. We wish him all the best for the upcoming matches and the rest of the season.
