If you are a Call of Duty fan who plays on PC or console, then it’s possible you are not too happy with the game at the moment. Every year, Call of Duty fans are excited because it means they will get to play a new title. However, it seems like Activision has taken a completely different attitude with this yearly cycle.
Since Modern Warfare came out in 2019, the game was full of glitches and bugs. Every month Infinity Ward had to release some kind of bug fix, but eventually players would find another game-breaking exploit that made the game unplayable.
After Activision launched Warzone in March 2020, things were not pretty. Warzone was the first highly successful Battle Royale game by Call of Duty, and Verdansk became a hotspot very quickly. Nonetheless, the game was almost unplayable at times, with tons of bugs that destroyed its competitive nature.

2020 saw Treyarch take over from Infinity Ward and fans were happy because Black Ops series was making a return. However, nothing seems to have changed with the franchise that focuses on just one title every year.
Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War is in a worse state than Modern Warfare. At times the game does not feel like a finished version, but more like a beta version before release. Redditor u/Dead1y-Derri, started a similar conversation on the BOCW sub-reddit today.
When your product only has a shelf life of 12 months its not acceptable to be broken for almost 3 months

Many have replied to this discussion, and most of the comments have nothing positive to say. The passive attitude from both Activision and Treyarch is more enraging. It has been more than a year now that players have been crying foul about SBMM. However, Activision does not seem to care enough to even speak on the issue.

Activision does not care about Call of Duty for the 12-month cycle
The kind of state BOCW is in at the moment, it is clear Activision and Treyarch consider the game just as a money churning hobby. This 12-month cycle for each game gives them the license to while away the months somehow and focus more on the next title.
The franchise is immensely popular, and they have taken this fame for granted. Whatever Activision gives to its fans, they will buy it every year and end up playing it for 12 months before moving on.

The sales chart from December 2020 makes this assumption quite clear. BOCW was the highest selling title on the console and grabbed the sixth position on PC. BOCW was also the highest selling Call of Duty game ever, with 5.7 million digital units sold in the launch month itself.
With all the glitches and bugs, the immense popularity might come to a close soon for Call of Duty. Here’s hoping a billion dollar company like Activision has a better excuse than a pandemic with its next game in this franchise.
