Lewis Hamilton was looking poised to win the sprint qualifying at the Italian Grand Prix after FP2. But he botched his start, which meant he dropped down the grid from P2 to P5 at the first corner. He stayed P5 till the end, as he could not pass Lando Norris throughout the session.
The Mercedes driver looked dejected after the sprint, as he knew he had thrown away a potential win. He mentioned he expects championship rival Max Verstappen to get an easy win tomorrow in the race.

They bring upgrades every week: Lewis Hamilton on Red Bull’s pace
Hamilton stated that the pace of the Red Bull driver Max Verstappen surprised him in the sprint qualifying. He stated he believes that the Austrian team have brought an upgrade to every race this season, barring one.
“I think they have got more pace than they’ve had all year,” said Lewis on Red Bull’s pace.

“They bring upgrades every week. From what I’m told, there’s only one race where they haven’t brought an upgrade, so they are constantly adding performance to the car and they’ve done a great job,” said Hamilton.
The seven-time world champion congratulated his teammate, Valtteri Bottas, who finished the sprint qualifying in P1.” But well done to Valtteri today [for winning the sprint].”

The Mercedes driver expects an easy Max win tomorrow
Lewis will start tomorrow’s race in P4 because of Bottas’s penalty, which means that his title rival Max Verstappen will start the race at the front. Before challenging his rival for the win, Hamilton will have to deal with McLarens, who are ahead of him on the grid.
“You saw the pace of the Red Bull. I don’t know if he was faster than Valtteri but now he’s on pole, so it should an easy win for him,” said Lewis on Max’s chances.

Hamilton revealed his strategy for the race.
“For me, I’ve just got to try and get past these McLarens. I think we underestimated how well they [soft tires] would behave. We’ve got to try and figure out how to get by the McLarens tomorrow and try to limit the damage,” concluded Lewis.

Hamilton is currently 5 points behind Max in the title race and will look to better start tomorrow to challenge the Red Bull.
