Real Madrid defeated city rivals Atletico Madrid 5-3 on penalties after 120 minutes of a nerve-wrecking UEFA Champions League final in Milan on Saturday night.

Real Madrid draw first blood as their captain Sergio Ramos scored in the 15th minute from a Toni Kroos’ free-kick and an assist from Gareth Bale. Atletico Madrid won a penalty very early in the second half but Antoine Griezmann failed to convert it and hit the underside of the bar. But Atletico Madrid finally got their equalizer in the 79th minute after Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco scored from a brilliant first-time cross from Juanfran. The game went into extra time.

The scores were locked at 1-1 after 120 minutes and it all came down to the penalty shoot-out. Lucas Vasquez, Marcelo, Gareth Bale and Sergio Ramos scored for Real Madrid and Antoine Griezmann, Gabi, Saul Niguez scored for Atletico but Juanfran missed the all crucial fourth penalty. Cristiano Ronaldo, who had a quiet game altogether, scored the decisive kick, winning Real Madrid their eleventh European crown.
