Real manager Julen Lopetegui played Thiago quite often when he managed Spain’s national team. The Spanish playmaker is willing to join Los Blancos even though he is a former Barcelona player.
Some viewed the move as a travesty on the Spaniard’s part. They wondered why Thiago didn’t opt to join any other European giants if he wanted to leave Bavaria.
Barcelona sporting director, Eric Abidal, and manager Ernesto Valverde knew that Barca need an elite midfielder. Thiago was eager to return to Catalonia but now it seems that it wasn’t meant to be.
However, Barca have opted to look elsewhere to strengthen their midfield this summer. They bought Arthur Melo for a reported €30 million including add-ons. Barca have also signed Arturo Vidal who cost around €20 million.
The 27-year old Spaniard has attracted interest from numerous top clubs this summer. Alcantara left Barca for Bayern in 2013 due to surprising circumstances. He was destined for stardom but faced no clear route into the Blaugrana’s XI. This was because of the presence of stars like Xavi and Andres Iniesta.
