Insomniac Games has delivered an update that will leave PlayStation 4 users in a state of despair. The studio has announced that their upcoming title, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, will be a PS5 exclusive.

Insomniac responded to a question on Twitter, which confirmed the piece of news. The tweet left no doubt that the upcoming title would not be available for PS4 users. The title features some power-packed mechanics that the older console might not be able to handle.

The PlayStation 5 boasts some incredible improvements in hardware which the PS4 lacks. Improved loading time implies that a faster SSD might be required which again, isn’t present in the PS4.

So, it’s safe to assume that the title was never really in line to roll out for PS4. However, all hope is not lost for PS4 users. Several titles coming for the next-gen console will also be available on the current-gen console. These include Spider-Man: Miles Morales,  Horizon Forbidden West, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, and Destruction All-Stars.

As for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, players will be able to choose between playing at 4K with 30fps or on a lower resolution but with 60fps, which is yet another condition the PS4 can’t fulfill.

A range of new titles will accompany the launch of PS5. However, Cyberpunk 2077, which was set to release this month, has been delayed again. This has come as yet another blow for PlayStation patrons.

Similarly, it was initially announced that Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart would roll out with the new console. But Insomniac hasn’t informed the fans of a particular date, and it is possible that we could be looking at a 2021 window of release.

PlayStation 5 is rolling out for the US and other select countries on November 12 and just a week after for the rest of the world. While the new console is definitely an eye-catcher, new titles will make the most of the new hardware, and the subsequent months promise to be very exciting. Stay tuned for more updates!
