World Number two, Rafael Nadal took on the fifth seed, Daniil Medvedev for his 19th Grand Slam title. The aggressive Spaniard, Rafa prevailed over the 23-year-old, Medvedev 7-5, 6-3, 5-7, 4-6, 6-4 and lifted up his 19th Grand Slam title at US Open 2019 in nearly five hours.
Set One:
Rafa began the opening game with a banana forehand lasso around the net on the second point and later the Russian faced a break point at 40-30. Rafa was given time violation warning for delaying his first serve.

The lengthy rallies were followed and the Spaniard made a gutsy hold in the first game. Nadal’s serve was broken just six times in the entire tournament and the 23-year-old Moscow native broke him in the second game of US Open finals with his long rallies. Quickly, the Mallorcan avenged his service game loss and later held his serve to love at 3-2.

The aggressive lefty, Rafael Nadal was drenched in New York City’s humidity and his first serve percentage was 41 at 4-3. A stronghold by the lanky Russian at 4-4 after he served and volleyed multiple times and hit a few flat backhands, while Rafa had three chances to break his serve. Medvedev dug deep to make a hold after seven minutes at 5-5.
Counterpunching the returns of the flat hitter righty, Rafa held two sets points. With Medvedev flawing on the net, the Spaniard sealed the set 7-5.

Set Two:
The long rallies from the young ATP player’s end continued in the second set and the 33-year-old Spanish Veteran responded patiently to all his shots. Nadal fended off break points and with his relentlessly hitting, he held his serve at 2-2.

Set Three:
The lanky Russian made a service hold to love in the third set, but the wild forehand roar from Rafa on his next service game, the Spaniard led by a break in the third set at 3-2. The fifth seed had an opportunity for a 3-3 scoreline, but a serve an volley tactic from Rafa withered away that chance. Rafa missed an overhead smash on a 24-shot rally, and a point later Daniil was back on serve.

Warrior-like tennis was seen at 4-4, the fearless form of Medvedev emerged as Rafa faced break points. Battling to stay in the final match, the lanky boy from Moscow prevailed in the encounter at 5-4.
Battling back at 6-5 with the stadium cheering for him, on Rafa’s serve, he pummeled a forehand winner down the line for a set point. He came up with a backhand winner and consequently pushed the final match into the fourth set. Medvedev sealed the third set, 7-5.

Rafael Nadal broke Medvedev to lead by 3-2 in the final set, but while he was a break point down, he stopped Medvedev’s ace because it was not prepared for it.
