The PS5 and XBOX Series X design have already become the talk of the town. While the PS4 and Xbox One were meant to fit in with a room’s aesthetic, the PS5 stand out in a room and adds to its aesthetic. No doubt, the PS5 looks like nothing we have seen before. It has an otherworldly, almost futuristic feel to it.

In an interview with Cnet.com, Playstation CEO Jim Ryan talks about the idea behind the PS5 design and much more.

The design is meant to be “bold, daring and future-facing”

The PS5 design does bring something new to the table. It looks very intriguing. An interesting design, boasting of the strong gaming hardware that it holds within.

In the interview with Cnet.com, Jim Ryan describes the latest Playstation baby to be “a quantum leap over the current generation”. He says,

“We wanted to do something that was bold and daring almost… We wanted something forward-facing and future-facing, something for the 2020s”

The tall, “reverse-oreo” design certainly looks futuristic, almost as if it has come straight out of a game. Although, Ryan says that the white-black-white combination is only one of the many color schemes in which PS5 will gradually be available.

The PS5 is expected to be an era-defining element in the world of gaming. We have all seen the visual spectacle PS5 is set to serve during its launch. According to Ryan,

“…what we’re doing with PS5 really represents a quantum leap over the current generation. And the intent was to have the games do that for us.”

Digital vs Standard Version

The Playstation CEO made it clear that there are no differences in design in the two variants. The reason they went with a digital option as well is that they noticed over the first quarter of this year, one-third of the games were digitally purchased and downloaded. Ryan says that people are going digital with their games too, like with music and films, and Playstation is trying to recognize that.

As for the compatibility of the old disks, Ryan says that PS5 is designed to play PS4 games. He added that

We’re going through the process with the publishers and developers testing that rather exhaustive library of over 4,000 games. We’re happy with the progress that’s been made.”

What is the price range to expect for PS5?

As for the prices, Ryan refused to talk about it, and whether the digital one will be cheaper than the standard variant. Although, he did say that the production line is still on, despite the global pandemic situation. Amidst the current economic condition worldwide, Playstation and Sony have been working with retailers to make sure the buyers have a smooth preorder process.

Now it is only a matter of time before we lay our hands on this mean machine and finally experience the next-gen gaming PS5 promises.
