Ian Walsh is widely regarded as the pinnacle of professional big-wave surfers. He is not only determined to seek out every significant wave occurrence in the Pacific, but also driven to be the most well-rehearsed, energized, and alert surfer in the lineup. Walsh’s commitment to surfing, from Jaws to Mavericks and beyond, is unparalleled. He is in peak physical condition and mental concentration, and along with his team, they securely raise the bar even more. Recently, the surfer visited one of the world’s deadliest big wave spots: California’s Mavericks.

The big-wave surfing superstar was recently featured in a video on the Red Bull Surfing YouTube channel, where he did what he does best: take on enormous waves. The surfer is having a blast at the Mavericks right now, and he doesn’t seem to be scared of the big waves since he is really committed to the sport. Yet, he warns of the potentially life-threatening conditions of these waters.

Even these mammoth-sized waves don’t scare the surfing sensation

The Mavericks’ waves are nothing to mess with. These 25-foot crests in the Californian sea will leave you bloodied and bruised (some top off at 80 feet in height). The waves travel for five days in the deep sea before slamming against the shallow reef with a thunderous noise. The left side of Mavericks is seldom surfed because of the high speeds of the rides and the unpredictability of the waves. Yet the surfer seems unfazed by such warnings. Instead of complicating matters, Ian Walsh just donned his toughest Red Bull surfing gear and headed out to face one of the world’s hardest waves. Apart from that, he mentions that he saw the largest waves he has ever seen in Mavericks, making the difficulty level of the task even higher.

Meanwhile, the surfer attempted to predict the Mavericks’ waves, but the unusual wave pattern was beyond his comprehension. Finding the right entries may have been challenging, but he eventually made his way to the ocean. After surfing the whole day, he got back for a break and said, “It’s the end of the day now. Took a little break to get some water and pour some boiling water down my wetsuit to try to get the feeling back in my body after being frozen numb.” Walsh had to pour boiling water on his wetsuit to keep warm since the waves were so cold. The Mavericks can’t be underestimated, right?
