The world is already in awe of PS5 and Xbox Series X’s graphical prowess. But while the fans swoon over these consoles, Nividia was working to make them look absolutely underpowered. Case in point: The RTX 30 Series GPUs. At a recent event, Nvidia announced its lineup of the next-gen RTX 3070, 3080, and the beast, the RTX 3090.
All three of these are revolutionary in every way imaginable. The hardware, the design, and the raw power that these cards possess are unparalleled. But the RTX 3090 is a notch above 3070 and 3080.
It is by far the most powerful GPU by Nvidia, and possibly the chunkiest. If one were to compare its size, it is almost as big as the Xbox Series S console. Considering that GPU goes into a PC, it requires some serious space and supporting components.

While Nvidia is struggling to manage the supply for the RTX 30 Series GPUs, popular YouTuber Marques Brownlee already got his hands on an RTX 3090. In his latest video, he tests if Nvidia’s claims of 8K are actually true.
In the video, he introduces a custom CPU with the RTX 3090 and supporting peripherals. For testing the 8k capability, he uses the LG Z9 88” 8K OLED TV. He points out that 3090 has the HDMI 2.1 output option that allows the single cable 8K option. After booting up his PC, he was able to achieve the maximum resolution of 7680×4320.

Marques Brownlee tests the RTX 3090 at 8K while playing Forza Horizon 4
Next, he tests the card’s 8K capability while gaming. To test it to its absolute limit, he launches the Forza Horizon 4. Surprisingly enough; the card can achieve the same 8K resolution at ultra-high settings at 60 FPS. The GPU almost constantly runs at 85-90% capacity while delivering 60 FPS at 8K. That is seriously impressive for any graphic card and an incredibly tough feat to achieve. Only during the cut scenes, the frame-rate drops to 30FPS as they include pre-rendered footage.
Next, he boots up ‘Control’ that boasts exceedingly visual capabilities. Even though the game runs perfectly at 8K while delivering 50 FPS, he did notice some discrepancies. For instance, once the Render resolution was changed to 5K, the frame-rate dropped to 21 FPS.

While the RTX 3090 impresses by delivering 8K resolution, there aren’t that many display options available in the market to support it. The ones that are available will thousands of dollars and may not be worth it.
Although, this puts a lot into perspective for the future of gaming. Nivida definitely has outdone itself with the RTX 30 Series and promises to deliver impressive frame rates. It also proves that the future is indeed all about higher frame rates and resolution. The 3090 makes a lot of things possible for gamers and will definitely revolutionize the gaming industry.
