In what can be termed as an expression of gratitude and thankfulness, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif praised and thanked Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe and Zimbabwe’s cricket team for their efforts to kick-start the flow of international cricket in Pakistan after around a span of around 6 years. In a letter released from PM House, Sharif stated the recent Pakistan-Zimbabwe series as a “resounding success”. He was also delighted to witness the joy and support of the cricket fans in the country.
Zimbabwe’s cricket team just completed a safe and successful tour in Pakistan last month, which was the first international tour to Pakistan by any team, after the attack on Sri Lankan team in 2009. In his letter Sharif had written, “The recent tour of the Zimbabwe cricket team to Pakistan was a resounding success. I am sure you have been informed of the tremendous enthusiasm of the Pakistan fans who packed the stadiums on all the matches, waving not just Pakistani flags but also those of Zimbabwe”, according to The Express Tribune.
Emphasizing on the support and trust of Zimbabwe to send their players to Pakistan, even when ICC refused to send its officials, Nawaz Sharif added that, “The government and people of Pakistan are grateful to you for your leadership, vision and solidarity with Pakistan and Pakistani cricket for helping make this entertaining cricket contest a reality.
The Pakistan PM was also delighted as this tour gave many cricketers the chance to play international cricket on their home grounds after a long span of time, probably after a six-year long drought.
