PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Reaffirm their Pledge to Safe Gaming

The past few years have been revolutionary for technology, especially, in the gaming industry. Nintendo‘s innovation with the Switch, back in 2017, followed by an era-defining list of games such as God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, and Red Dead Redemption, has brought the industry a really long way. Finally, Sony and Microsoft have also joined the race with their latest PlayStation and Xbox.

The two giants launched their next-gen consoles in November 2020. Sony took over the market with its PS5 while Microsoft caught a wider base with its Xbox Series X|S. These also brought along innovations and improvements in performance and appearance. However, with all these strides, there is always a risk to the vulnerable section.

A large section of consumers of these consoles and games is the youth. With growing interconnectivity, it is hard to monitor and regulate activity over the internet. Therefore, for many, safe gaming is a myth. However, PlayStation, along with other market competitors, has assured consumers that it’s working towards making a safer gaming environment for users.

Dave McCarthy, Corporate Vice President, Xbox Operations, recently published a statement on responsible gaming. The Xbox Wire article included a shared commitment by PlayStation, Nintendo, and Xbox on how they are constantly working to make gaming safer for the community.

The companies have focused on three principles to achieve this goal.

1. Prevention: Empower players and parents to understand and control gaming experiences.
2. Partnership: We commit to partnering with the industry, regulators, law enforcement, and our communities to advance user safety.
3. Responsibility: We hold ourselves accountable for making our platforms as safe as possible for all players.

The industry breaking partnership comes for a great cause. Therefore, regardless of what side fans are on, they can definitely join these consoles and other companies trying to make gaming safe, especially for the vulnerable community.
