It’s ‘Clash of the Console Titans’ season again as the world gears up for the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X launch. Everyone related to the gaming industry itches to find out the answer to one big question every time a new console is announced; what will they be priced at? People may argue that hardware specifications may be the USP of the console and it all depends on how powerful the machine is. Nonetheless, the price plays a major role in the decision to buy the console.

PlayStation 4 and Xbox One price wars

When the PS4 and Xbox One launched, Microsoft had revealed the price before Sony in 2013. Microsoft priced the Xbox One at $499. Sony decided to go with a price that turned the tide in its favor for good when they priced the PS4 at $399. That’s a $100 difference!

The number may look relatively small on paper but when you count it in terms of sales figures, it can be pretty surprising. Even though the consoles were fairly similar in terms of hardware specs, PS4 dominated the sales with an estimated 110 million units sold. Xbox One struggled to cross the 50 million mark (Nintendo Switch has now overtaken Xbox One in terms of sales).

Price may not be the factor you should look at while deciding which console is the most powerful, but it is still one of the most crucial elements influencing the decision.

PlayStation 5 price reveal rumors

The rumors of the PS5 price reveal have been around for some time now. None of these have actually stood to be true until one bit of news came through a certain individual known for his credibility in such matters. Roberto Serrano recently replied to a twitter user when asked when the price was to be revealed on July  13. This was his response:

This news excited a lot of fans as Serrano has a good track record with leaks and insider news. Well, things didn’t turn out quite like they were supposed to as there is still no official word from Sony regarding the PS5 launch date or price. Regardless, we will definitely hear from them soon as Microsoft gears up for the Xbox Series X event on July 23. This will most likely give us the information we desire regarding the price, pre-orders, and the launch date.
