The PlayStation 5 launch is near and we may soon hear of a launch date and price for the same. We would’ve gotten it earlier thanks to an insider tip by Roberto Serrano but that never happened. While the world is still fighting the coronavirus and struggling to get back to normalcy, Sony is looking to boost the PS5 production up to 10 million units to meet the holiday season demand.

The price and launch date are yet to be announced for Sony’s next-gen console but sources reveal we could be looking at a release date close to Holiday 2020. As Bloomberg reports, Sony has informed its suppliers and assembly partners to radically increase the production for the PS5. All this even though there may be obvious logistical issues due to the pandemic situation. Sony believes the fear of the second wave of coronavirus will stir even more demand for the console. However, even with a boost in production, Sony may not be able to deliver the required units, on time, during the holiday season. Most of their consoles are made in China and shipped via ocean lines to the US and Europe. Such shipments could take months to arrive. This is exactly why Nintendo could not fulfill the demand for its Switch console.

Sony could try using airlines to deliver the consoles but with their frequency reduced, the issues will persist.

That being said, there is still no word on the official price for the PS5. This is one of the most important factors in the console wars. The right price gives you an upper hand and will definitely invite more sales. Rumors suggest that the price will be somewhere between $499 and $599. Plus, it will also depend on when rivals Xbox Series X will reveal its price. The console will probably be priced higher than its predecessor. There are even talks of game manufacturers increasing the prices of their upcoming titles for PS5. You can read about it here.

For now, we wait for the official announcement for pre-orders and price for the PlayStation 5. Stay tuned for more updates.
