Finally, after months of waiting, we have a solid update on pre-orders for the PlayStation 5. So far, Sony’s marketing head Eric Lempel had mentioned that the company would ‘let us know’ when the pre-orders opened. And looks like the good news is here. The official PlayStation website now has a page where you can register for pre-orders of the upcoming console.
Playstation 5 pre-order registration
“There will be a limited quantity of PS5 consoles available for pre-order, so we will be inviting some of our existing consumers to be one of the first to pre-order one from PlayStation. Pre-order reservations will be taken on a first-come-first-serve basis, so once you get an invite via email, we encourage you to follow instructions and act fast.

“If you are interested in receiving an invitation, register below. If selected, we will contact you via email with instructions and details,” reads the announcement blog post.
The catch here is that it is on a first-come-first-serve basis, so you may want to hurry up. This invite-based pre-order system is probably due to the limited availability of the console. We know that Sony has increased its production for the PS5 but it’ll still be difficult for them to ensure its delivery worldwide. And probably because of that, they are allowing customers to sign up for this because they may actually not be able to meet the demand immediately on launch.

Unfortunately, the price for PS5 still remains a mystery. The page only asks you to enter your email and PSN id and that’s it. We will have to wait a while longer for the price.
Change in PS5’s marketing strategy
This could also be one of the marketing campaigns Eric Lempel recently spoke about. In an interview, he spoke about the challenges they’re facing in marketing the console due to the global pandemic.

“We really had to change how we do things. If we weren’t in the current situation, we would probably have produced a slightly different type of spot. This is going to become the new way of the world for the foreseeable future, and a lot of us had to adapt and shift and get innovative and creative. Although it is not the situation we would want in a launch year, we are pretty happy with how we’ve been able to pivot and create something like this.”
Even the latest PlayStation 5 ad was an attempt to make the players ‘feel’ the experience. For now, this is the only update by Sony regarding its console. So what are you waiting for? Go and register before it’s too late!
