The PlayStation 5 has a lot of stuff going on that we don’t know about. In a recent preview of the WRC 9, a previously unknown feature came to light. This is according to a preview on Gamereactor, which has now been taken down (of course!). But thanks to a twitter user named Gematsu, we got exactly what we needed.
Gamereactor preview article for WRC 9 mentioned an unannounced #PS5 feature. Article was here but was taken offline: https://t.co/BIKFZEAhnL

The feature, called ‘Activities’, is a deep-link to specific points in the game. This was written with regards to the WRC 9 game but it may also be applicable to other games.
Now how exactly will this deep-link work? Well, it’s tough to say given that we have no clue about this feature. But a rough idea suggests that it will allow you to access a specific mission, at the preferred level in a game, with almost zero loading time. You won’t have to navigate through the game’s menu to select what you want. It will be almost instantaneous.
This is possible thanks to the super-fast SSD the PlayStation 5 has. It promises to ensure a shorter boot-up time too. Moreover, being able to access specific parts of the game will be a total game-changer.

Mark Cerny on the PlayStation 5 SSD
There were rumors that this could be a possibility before, too. In an interview with WIRED, in 2019, system designer Mark Cerny revealed, “Rather than treating games like a big block of data, we’re allowing finer-grained access to the data.
“Even though it will be fairly fast to boot games, we don’t want the player to have to boot the game, see what’s up, boot the game, see what’s up.

“Multiplayer game servers will provide the console with the set of joinable activities in real time. Single-player games will provide information like what missions you could do and what rewards you might receive for completing them—and all of those choices will be visible in the UI. As a player you just jump right into whatever you like.”
Well, looks like it’s finally confirmed. Gamereactor having to pull down this article can only mean that the Activities feature is a reality and, well, is definitely going to change the gameplay experience once and for all. Cerny had also mentioned how PS5’s SSD was designed not only for speed and efficiency but also to allow optimal use of storage.
This feature will also open so many different avenues for game developers. The Xbox Series X also boasts lightning-fast loading times but this feature will take the PS5 a notch above. We have a lot of great stuff planned with the PS5 and we can’t wait to see how it turns out.
