The new controller for PlayStation 5 is called the ‘DualSense.’ This was unveiled way before we caught a glimpse of the actual console. We have only seen the new controller in pictures so far. There has been no real hands-on review of the same. But that is all about to change.

Journalist Geoff Keighley announced a hands-on review for the DualSense controller happening today at the Summer Games Fest. This is the first time we will see a 3rd-party review of the controller.

Sony execs on the PlayStation 5 DualSense Controller

Hideaki Nishino, Senior Vice President for Platform Planning and Management writes

After thoughtful consideration, we decided to keep much of what gamers love about DualShock 4 intact, while also adding new functionality and refining the design. Based on our discussions with developers, we concluded that the sense of touch within gameplay, much like audio, hasn’t been a big focus for many games. We had a great opportunity with PS5 to innovate by offering game creators the ability to explore how they can heighten that feeling of immersion through our new controller. This is why we adopted haptic feedback, which adds a variety of powerful sensations you’ll feel when you play, such as the slow grittiness of driving a car through mud. We also incorporated adaptive triggers into the L2 and R2 buttons of DualSense so you can truly feel the tension of your actions, like when drawing a bow to shoot an arrow.”

With DualSense, Sony is taking things to the next level.  The controller replaces the ‘share’ button with the ‘create’ button. This is to allow content creators to create and share their content with ease. More details will be announced soon.

The controller also has a built-in microphone array to make communication easier during co-op and multiplayer sessions. The position of the light bar has also changed and is now at the side of the touchpad. The controller was also tested with a variety of hand sizes to ultimately fixate upon one specific size.
