Sony Interactive Entertainment has released a new advertisement for the Playstation 5 coming later this year. The latest spot is called ‘The Edge’ and it released exclusively on Variety. The first advert was released last month and is focused on showcasing some of the features gamers would gather from PS5.

Unlike the first global advert, this new spot does not give out anything major except metaphors. Eric Lempel Senior Vice President, PlayStation Worldwide Marketing, SIE writes in the recently published blog,

A few months ago, we introduced our first global tagline for the PlayStation brand, Play Has No Limits. Today we are pleased to share our latest global brand spot, “The Edge.” This spot brings the idea of Play Has No Limits to life through an evocative visual metaphor — with gamers taking us on an adventure that they never dreamed could be possible.

The advert showcases a man sailing alone in the high seas. He curiously looks at what lies ahead of him beyond the horizon. The huge wave is seen rising in the front and soon the sailor is joined by other varieties of boats and ships. Some air-vessels also join his newly formed fleet. The dramatic music comes to stop for a second as the man rushes into the high waves. His entire fleet is transported to a different mythic world with stars all around. The advert ends with PlayStation’s tagline- “Play has no limits”.

What does the new Playstation ad mean?

Eric Lempel provides a further explanation to “The Edge” over the blog post.

The Edge” showcases our ambition to challenge the ordinary and continue to push the boundaries of play. We want to raise the bar for our fans and for ourselves as we move into a new generation. The core of our brand is defined by those thrilling moments when our hearts race and we leap into undiscovered adventure. That’s what this new ad is all about.”

The Edge was shot before the coronavirus pandemic unlike the first one. The pandemic has caused several problems for Sony while marketing their next generation of consoles. They do it once in five or six years and prefer to provide their fans with a much more hands-on experience prior to release. The pandemic has made that impossible to happen.

Sony will provide a brand new look at the PlayStation and discuss upcoming games later this week on September 16. Watch this space for more PlayStation 5 news.
