Tyrese Maxey just had one of the greatest nights of his life. The young guard went to the Philadelphia 76ers as the 21st pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. And now, LeBron James has congratulated him for it.
Maxey was one of the underrated gems in the 2020 draft class. Maxey played for the University of Kentucky, where he made strides with his play. He averaged close to 14 points, 3.2 assists, and 4.3 rebounds in 31 games for Kentucky.
One of Maxey’s biggest weaknesses is his three-point shooting. He only averaged 29% from beyond the three-point line. And he only attempted 3 three-pointers and made 1 per game on average.

Maxey has great shooting ability, despite the poor stat line for his three-point shooting. He has good speed, a great wingspan for a player his size, and is a prolific playmaker. Maxey has potential beyond what his statistics and averages suggest.
Maxey was expected to be a top-20 draft pick but got selected just outside of that. He was the 21st draft pick in the draft, and the Philadelphia 76ers have gotten a potential diamond in the rough.
LeBron James congratulates Tyrese Maxey
Many NBA players helped Maxey get to where he is. He had prolific NBA Players such as LeBron James and Ben Simmons work out with him throughout the time he was preparing for the NBA Draft. To get such a seal of approval from players at this level is no small feat.

Maxey could be a surprise star in the NBA, given his low ranking in the draft projections and selection. But there is a long way to go before any genuine assessment can be made about him. One thing is for sure though; Maxey does have the tools to be a star in the NBA.
LA Lakers‘ LeBron James took to Twitter to congratulate Tyrese Maxey for being drafted in the 2020 NBA Draft. James and Maxey do have a history together, having trained prior to the draft. It appears as though James has given his early stamp of approval. He tweeted, “CONGRATS Lil bro!! Proud of you kid. The work continues! Philly got a good one for sure! “
