The Philadelphia Eagles made one of the biggest moves in the NFL Draft. On Draft day, the Eagles traded up from the 12th overall pick to the Dallas Cowboys along with their 84th overall pick to move into the Top-10.
With the 10th overall pick, the Eagles selected Alabama wide receiver and Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith. It was a shrewd move from the Eagles, who desperately needed support at the wide receiver spot.
However, DeVonta Smith hasn’t done much to endear himself to the natives of Philadelphia. In a recent interview, a reporter asked Smith whether he was a Boston Celtics fan. Smith confirmed that he was a fan of the historic franchise.

Given the nature of the rivalry between the Celtics and the 76ers, he was asked whether he would switch allegiances and root for the 76ers. Smith retorted, “You can for sure get me to the game, but convert me? I don’t know about that one.”

Naturally, this was quite upsetting for Philadelphia fans. Some even jokingly remarked that his run with the Eagles was fun while it lasted. If nothing else, Smith will see how passionate Philadelphia fans are about their franchise.
And by not supporting their basketball team, he has landed a harsh blow. But if Smith is able to live up to the potential that he has shown glimpses of, all will soon be forgiven.
DeVonta Smith could be a star in Philly
Smith was one of the most in-demand stars in the NFL Draft. Despite winning the Heisman Trophy for 2020, Smith fell down the pecking order because of the teams in the Top-10 of the Draft, and their separate demands.

However, the Eagles desperately needed a wide receiver. Despite teams not needing him, few franchises let a Heismann Trophy winner fall out of the Top-10.
Up stepped Philadelphia Eagles. They traded up to bring in DeVonta Smith to the franchise. Smith was the perfect player for the Eagles, as they desperately needed a wide receiver heading into the new season. Furthermore, he adds an element of speed to the Eagles that they are yet to experience.
