We all know Justin Thomas is one of the best players on the PGA Tour. JT has bagged 14 PGA Tours and a major championship in his young career so far. However, Justin has had a tough time since the last year or so. He hasn’t won a single event since his 2021 Players Championship victory.
But he is getting back to his original form slowly, with some decent performances in the past couple of months. Notably, JT has made some changes to swing, which is helping him gain more clubhead and ball speed. This has eventually helped him gain more distance, especially with his driver.

Justin Thomas makes a minute change to gain more ball speed
Justin Thomas is not one of those muscular guys, like Bryson DeChambeau or Brooks Koepka. But still, he used to get a decent distance off the tee. However, he has changed his backswing a bit, which is helping him immensely so far.

So during the backswing, when Thomas transfers his weight on the trail leg, he lifts his lead heel and is completely on the toes. Moreover, he has opened up his stance a little bit as well, which gives him more room for rotation. And according to the golf instructor Lucas Wald, this puts less stress and increases ball speed and clubhead speed, which will eventually increase the distance.

This technique seems to be working well for Justin Thomas so far. He has an average driving distance of 308.3 yards on the 2022 PGA Tour so far. But since this is just the start of the season, we may even see JT’s average driving distance increasing immensely.

Justin is currently competing at the 2022 WM Phoenix Open at TPC Scottsdale. JT is T20 going into the final round and is six strokes behind the leader Sahith Theegala. So he will be hopeful of a good performance in the final round and will be aiming for at least a top-10 finish this week.
