Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are two of the most legendary golf players. Even though both have the same profession, the duo never liked each other until recently.

The relationship of the pair changed when they played together for Team USA at the 2016 Ryder Cup. Mickelson and Woods were the captain and the assistant captain of the team, respectively.

In an interview, Phil explained how, because of the Ryder Cup, Woods earned respect from him. He said, “getting an idea to see how prepared he was and how meticulous with each little thing, I had a new respect for him.”

From 2016, the legendary duo became close friends. They started to play together outside the championships. Until then, the pair never played with each other, if not for an official tournament.

But ever since they became friends, Phil and Tiger had played together for charities and good causes. Mickelson and Tiger raised more than $20 million for the Covid relief fund at The Match: Champions for Charity. It was the second time the pair had collaborated to play at The Match.

Although everything is in the past now, we cannot help but look into one of the funny instances where Tiger trash-talked Phil.

Tiger Woods savage reply to Phil Mickelson

“It just so happened that I kinda outdrove him.”

The whole gallery laughed when Tiger said this. He was telling a hilarious story that happened between him and Phil Mickelson.

Tiger was explaining that although Phil hit the ball too far, he outdrove Phil on his next shot. “He had about a 4-iron into the green and I had a 6-iron into the green,” Tiger added.

Tiger explained that although Phil hit the ball too far, Woods outdrove him with his 3-woods. “He had about a 4-iron into the green, and I had a 6-iron into the green,” Woods said.

Although the story was already funny, it became funnier as the story progressed. Tiger continued, “We’re walking off the Tee together, and Phil and I hadn’t said a word to each other all day.”

He further explained the reason for that, “(we are) trying to win a Major championship, and we’re in the final pairing, so this is intense.”

Since Woods outdrove him with his 3-wood, Mickelson couldn’t help but ask Tiger about the shot. Tiger said, “He (Mickelson) said, ‘Do you normally hit your 3-wood that far?'”
