The 2021 ZOZO Championship is all set to begin on October 21st at the Accordia Golf Narashino Country Club. Notably, the event is back in Japan for the first time after 2019. Last year, California hosted the event because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Meanwhile, the field has a few prominent names, like Collin Morikawa, Xander Schauffele, Rickie Fowler, and many others.

Collin Morikawa got stuck in a mall during the 2019 ZOZO Championship
After an impressive finish at the 2021 CJ Cup in Vegas, Collin Morikawa flew down to Japan for the ZOZO Championship. During a pre-round press conference, a journalist questioned him about his most memorable outing during his first visit to Japan in 2019 for the same event.

“I remember we were all stuck at the mall,” Collin said. “It was this tournament two years ago, and my caddy myself, my girlfriend, and another caddy, Brandon Antas, who is JJ’s friend. We decided to walk back from the mall about three miles in. It wasn’t raining, but we were walking through puddles, and I think we walked on the freeway under some tunnels, so that was one of the biggest memories.”

Speaking of 2019, Collin Morikawa had a decent ZOZO Championship in Japan that year. He shared the 22nd spot as he finished the event with a score of -6, with Tiger Woods finishing the event at the top with a score of -19.
But, this time, Morikawa is more confident as a player, as he now has two major wins under his belt. Hence, he will be one of the favorites to lift the trophy this week.
