Rory McIlroy Reveals Conflicting Desires About His Daughter’s Future: ‘I Certainly Won’t Push Her Toward Doing What I Do for a Living’

Rory McIlroy is one of the most prominent golfers on the PGA Tour. He has bagged 20 PGA Tours and four major championships in his career so far. However, the last couple of years have been slightly strenuous, as it looked like Rory had lost his swing and game. But he is slowly getting back to his old form and will hopefully emerge as a winner soon.

Meanwhile, he had a couple of excellent chances in the last few months, but he only managed to win one event; McIlroy won the 2021 CJ Cup at Vegas. Not to forget, Rory is a father now as he welcomed his daughter home around a year ago. Notably, he once even opened up on what he thinks about her future. 

Does Rory McIlroy want his daughter to be a golfer?

Rory McIlroy had a chat with Dylan Dethier at the Hero World Challenge a couple of months ago. There, Dylan asked him, if he hopes for his daughter to become a golfer. “I’d like her to like golf,” said Rory. “I’d like her to take an interest in it. I certainly won’t push her towards doing what I do for a living, but I’d like her to enjoy golf,” revealed the Irishman.

Furthermore, McIlroy revealed the reasons why he wants his daughter to take up golf. “I mean, I think it’s such a great game. You can play it your entire life. You meet so many great people along the way. I appreciate that even more so now than I used to do. Really, there’s no other game in the world like that. So, yeah, I hope it’s a part of her life.” 

Rory’s daughter Poppy Kennedy McIlroy was born on August 31st, 2020, at Jupiter Medical Center. She was first spotted at the Wells Fargo Championship, where Rory pulled off an incredible victory. He carded -10 for the event and won an event after ages on the PGA Tour. 

Clearly, McIlroy hopes that even if his daughter doesn’t take up golf professionally, it is at least a part of her life, so she can enjoy the beautiful game one way or another.
