Justin Thomas is one of the best golfers in the world right now. While his #2 OWGR ranking doesn’t convey the message, one can look at the highlights of The 2021 Players Championship to understand his fighting mentality.

Thomas earlier made a comment comparing his iron game to Spieth’s putting game and mentioned how it is his major strength on the golf course. Jordan Spieth was asked to render his response to this statement during a recent press conference at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play event.

“I think his start lines are really solid. He normally starts the ball right where he’s lined up, and he kind of like in a way D.J. does, he really commits to playing a very similar ball flight, like a few-yard fade most every time. And then if he needs to work a different flight, he can,” Spieth mentioned about Thomas.

“But just kind of that consistency in start lines makes iron play that much easier when you can line up kind of left center of the green or center of the green to a right pin and say, yeah, I know this is going to start there, and either stay there or it will cut towards the hole. And he’s just so good at having that ball start very zeroed, no matter what flight he’s playing,” Spieth added.

Spieth is an excellent performer at Match Play events. Fans expect him to deliver a Top 10 result at the Austin Country Club when the tournament begins. Being a University of Texas alum, Spieth would be well versed with the layout and would hope to gain his first Top 3 finish since the AT&T Pebble Beach event in February.
