The 2021 PGA Tour calendar is packed with tournaments. The Charles Schwab Challenge just took place, but it is already time for the historic Memorial Tournament to commence. The event is once again taking place at the Muirfield Village Golf Club, a golf course designed by the legendary Jack Nicklaus.

The Muirfield Village golf course is a dream vision of Jack Nicklaus which he completed in 1974. The Memorial Tournament has been played at this venue ever since its inception in 1976 and the layout has undergone several changes over the years.

Nicklaus is a man who strives for perfection and he’s implemented that in all of the golf courses he’s designed over the years. The Muirfield Village Golf Club is indeed a special one in the ranks, and it received a drastic change-over last year, as well as this year!

Jack Nicklaus provides layout update ahead of the 2021 Memorial Tournament

Jack Nicklaus is a master at designing golf courses. His company ‘Nicklaus Design’ has completed over 425 courses across 45 countries and 40 states. As the 2021 Memorial Tournament is scheduled to begin June 3, Nicklaus released a Twitter video mentioning the changes implemented to the Muirfield Village to make the event more interesting.

“I’ve made major changes on [Hole No.] one. Moved the green back about 30 yards. Number three, move the tee down the hill. Changed the green totally. [Hole No.] four, a new green. Used to be the smallest green on the golf course, now it’s the largest,” Nicklaus tells in the video.

Nicklaus also informed that he made massive changes to the par-5 fifth, which is 547 yards. The green on the fifth has been moved back 30 yards which brought a change to the length and also the hole itself.

“Ten, a whole new green. 11’s a whole new green, 15th a whole new hole,” Nicklaus further mentioned.

Jon Rahm is the defending champion at this year’s Memorial Tournament. The Spaniard would find the layout a lot different from when he played here last year, and it would indeed be a massive challenge for every other golfer participating in 2021.
