Bryson DeChambeau came really close to making history at the BMW Championship. He missed his 18th hole birdie, one step away from becoming the 12th player to break 60 on the PGA Tour. The feat is not easy to achieve – making it special whenever a player does so. Twenty-seven-year-old DeChambeau had the chance to join the likes of Justin Thomas, David Duval, and ten others.
While he did think he had a good day, some luck did factor in. “It fed off I think perfectly. Again, a little bit of luck. You have to have a little bit to luck to be playing that well out there”.
Last week, Cameron Smith had an opportunity to make it to the list while at the Northern Trust. Let’s take a look at all players who have shot a sub-60.

Players who broke 60 on the PGA Tour
Scottie Scheffler
Last year at the Northern Trust in TPC Boston, the PGA Tour rookie made history. He shot a 12-under 59 during Round 2, becoming the 11th player to do so. He was 23 when he did it, becoming the second-youngest to do so. After the game, he spoke to the media about, recalling his experience. “To be completely honest, there was nobody out there watching our group until I think 17 — some cameras showed up,” Scheffler said.
He explained that he did not lose momentum, made a lot of putts – which ended up working in his favor.
Kevin Chappell
Chappell, 35, made history while playing the A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier 2019 at Old White TPC. He was playing the tournament after recovering from his back surgery. “I was trying to keep the mindset, keep the foot on the gas and attack,” Chappell said about his feat. “All in all, couldn’t be happier with where I’m at”.
Brandt Snedeker
Snedeker completed his sub-60 during the 2018 Wyndham Championship first round. He won the event as well. Interestingly, he shot a bogey along with 10 birdies and one eagle. He is one of the only three players to shoot a sub-60 with a bogey. “I better be smiling,” Snedeker said. “I don’t do this every day.”
He even added that he did not see that coming. While he did try to keep it positive, he was not expecting it.
Adam Hadwin
With a 29-30 score, Adam Hadwin made the list at the 2017 CareerBuilder Challenge held at La Quinta CC (par 72). He made 13 birdies, six of them consecutive during Round 3.
Justin Thomas
Shortly after his SBS Tournament of Champions victory, Thomas shot his sub-60 at the 2017 Sony Open held at the Waialae Country Club. His 59 was possible due to his final hole eagle, making him the youngest in history to do so at 23. He beat Justin Rose by seven strokes to win the tournament.
Jim Furyk
Years ago at the 2013 BMW Championship, Furyk shot his 59 at the Conway Farms Golf Club. He had one eagle, 11 birdies, and one bogey as he made his birdie putt on Hole 9. Additionally, he shot his 58 in 2016 at the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands. He shot one eagle and 10 birdies, making seven consecutive birdies to earn him that achievement.
