Rickie Fowler has been having all sorts of troubles lately. The 32-year-old has not been consistent with his game and his derailing confidence is pulling him back from achieving strong finishes. As the 2020-21 PGA Tour season is nearing its end, Fowler has made a startling decision to skip an event that in turn puts his FedExCup Playoff spot at risk.

A few years ago, Rickie Fowler was a top-tier player who stayed put in the top half of the Official World Golf Ranking. But due to a form slump, Fowler’s reputation as a big-time player has taken a hit.

Fowler has made 23 starts this season and has achieved only one Top-10 finish. That is very unlikely for a player like him. While he’s only missed eight cuts in 23 starts, posting a low score in the weekend has been an uphill task for the 32-year-old.

Rickie Fowler raises concern with the latest schedule change

The PGA Tour season is heading towards its conclusion. This means that the FedExCup Playoffs are fast approaching. There are three playoff events that will take place as part of the 2021 FedExCup challenge.

The first among them will be ‘THE NORTHERN TRUST,’ which is scheduled for August 19-22 at the Liberty National Golf Club in New Jersey. The top 125 players in the current FedExCup standings will qualify for this event, and Rickie Fowler currently holds the 125th spot

However, the subsequent BMW Championship will filter out the pack and only the Top 70 players in the standings will qualify. That’s where it gets tricky for Fowler. There are only three events lined up ahead of The Northern Trust event, and Fowler has already pulled out of one of them. He rapidly needs to get into the Top 70 to play the BMW Championship.

Rickie Fowler is currently 125th on the 2021 FedExCup Standings. However, with him not playing the Barracuda Championship or the World Golf Championships-FedEx St. Jude Invitational, he will most likely miss out on playing the BMW Championship, the second leg of the FedExCup Playoff event.

Unless Fowler wins the Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club, he does not have a solid chance of qualifying for the second event in the 2021 FedExCup Playoffs. Fowler was scheduled to play the Barracuda Championship next week, but has pulled out of contention.
