Gary Player is one of the legendary golfers of all time on the PGA Tour. The South African golfer has won 24 PGA Tours and bagged nine major championships in his career. Notably, Gary Player was one of the golfers from the legendary trio, along with Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer.

Meanwhile, the 2022 year has had a captivating start, and everyone is waiting for the major championships to begin. Notably, the Open Championship this year is going to be special as it is the 150th edition of the event. For those who don’t know, the Open Championship is one of the four major championships, which they mostly play in the United Kingdom.

Gary Player shares the excitement for the 150th Open Championship

The legendary South African golfer, Gary Player, recently made a tweet about the 150th Open. He shared an image of him from the 1956 Open Championship, as it was his first-ever Open Championship.

The tweet read, “I hardly recognize the lad in this throwback! My first Open Championship in 1956.” Moreover, he wrote how he is excited about the Open and what makes golf so special. “Saying I am excited for this year’s 150th Open does not do it justice. One of the things that makes golf so special is its rich history, and no tournament is more steeped in tradition than the Open.”

Meanwhile, men’s golf has four major events, out of which, Open Championship is the only major which is played outside the United States. Hence, this is one of the most prestigious and iconic tournaments in golf. 

This year, the Open Championship is all set to begin on July 14th, 2022, at the St. Andrews Old Course. And Collin Morikawa will be going into the event as the defending champion as he won the 2021 Open Championship at Royal St. George’s in England.
