Webb Simpson joined the PGA Tour in 2009. He’s become a very familiar name since, winning seven times on the tour, including a major championship triumph. Simpson loves competing on the tour, so much so that he even named one of his daughters after an esteemed PGA Tour event!

Yes, we’re not kidding. In fact, Webb Simpson named one of his kids as a nod to the current tournament on the tour – the Wyndham Championship. But why did Simpson do that? What is the significance behind naming one of his kids behind a PGA Tour event?

Well, there is. There is always a reason behind everything. Webb Simpson made his PGA Tour debut in 2009 and then went on to claim his first title in 2011. His maiden tour trophy was the Wyndham Championship. Hence, the tournament holds a special place in his heart.

Webb Simpson reveals how he went through with the naming process

Webb Simpson and Taylor Dowd Simpson have been married since 2010. Hence, Simpson’s wife was right there when the golfer notched up his first win at the 2011 Wyndham Championship. She knows how special it was to him.

“This feels like another home tournament for me,” Simpson said about the Wyndham Championship in a press conference. “Growing up an hour-and-a-half down the road, I love this golf course. I feel like my home course growing up, Carolina Country Club has some similarities, undulation, dog-legs, got to hit fairways.”

Simpson also paid tribute to the tournament by naming one of his kids after it.

“Our third child we named Wyndham Rose partly because of this golf tournament and just kind of what it means to me and my family. So a lot of kind of special factors this week for me,” Simpson mentioned.
