With more than 10 years of his time with the PGA Tour, Rickie Fowler had managed to make a decent profile for himself. He has won five Tour events, including the 2015 PLAYERS Championship. However, Fowler hadn’t won an event since the 2019 Phoenix Open. He currently ranks 89 in the FedEx rankings and 122 on the OWGR list.

Since the golfer neither had a recent win nor high OWGR or FedEx rankings, he needed to win the Arnold Palmer Invitational to qualify for this week’s PGA event. Although Fowler made a cut after the two rounds of the 2022 API, he could only finish the tournament with a T55. As a result, he couldn’t qualify to play at the PLAYERS this week. Currently, Fowler is the seventh alternative for the event.
The future of Rickie Fowler at the PGA Tour events
The last time the 33-year-old had won an event on the PGA Tour was in 2019. As the benefit of the winner, he was able to play at the PGA events for three years ever since. However, his exemption period is over now, and Fowler would need to win another event to qualify directly for upcoming PGA tournaments.
So far, Fowler has yet to qualify for the 2022 Masters. However, he had already secured a spot at the 2022 PGA Championship since he finished T8 at the event last year. As per the rules of the tournament, the top 12 players would receive a return ticket.
The 2022 PLAYERS Championship
The most awaited championship event will begin this Thursday. The competition is a must-watch, as the top 30 FedEx standings would be playing at the tournament. Moreover, 45+ players from the OWGR top 50 would also be playing at the TPC Sawgrass this week.
