The 2021 Zozo Championship proved to be an exciting event. The tournament took place in Japan and home favorite Hideki Matsuyama ended up winning it all, with a brilliant finish. 24-year-old Collin Morikawa was a part of the field and he finished T7 after 72-holes.
Morikawa played some brilliant golf at the Zozo Championship but could not maintain consistency. He had a sub-par opening round, and tried to compensate for it during the weekend, but failed in his efforts.
On the brighter side, as per a Twiter OWGR guru, the T7 finish earned Collin Morikawa earned him the #2 spot on the Official World Golf Ranking, his highest career position so far. However, Collin Morikawa was far from pleased with his performance, especially in the third round.

Justin Thomas and Rickie Fowler try to console Collin Morikawa
Collin Morikawa was 5-under-275 at the 2021 Zozo Championship which earned him a T7 finish. He struggled to get going at some parts, especially during Saturday. We rarely see tour pros making a bogey on a par-5, and Morikawa suffered that disaster during the third round at Zozo Championship.
After shanking one of his shots, an unhappy Collin Morikawa found it hard to describe his feelings. Instead, he kept it real and mentioned that he’s never shanked a shot in his career before and this was the first. When the PGA Tour made a post about the same, Justin Thomas and Rickie Fowler jumped into the comments section to offer their support.

“Welcome to the club,” Thomas wrote, to console his friend. Rickie Fowler too had a hilarious take on it and said: “You did a great job holding out this long…join the club!” These comments can be viewed when the aforementioned post is opened. Furthermore, Morikawa’s girlfriend Katherine Zhu added it to her story and produced yet another hilarious take!
On the whole, Collin Morikawa received ample support after he admitted to having produced his first “shank.” It is quite common with amateurs, but the pros take it seriously. Nonetheless, one can always expect the 2021 Open Championship winner to bounce back.
