Matt Jones got off to a sublime start at The Honda Classic 2021 and sustained it for three more days to win the tournament at the PGA National Golf Course. Jones’ second PGA Tour victory of his career has earned him a prestigious ticket to the 2021 Masters.
Jones has been around the tour for decades now. The Australian golfer has not created a massive impact on the PGA Tour, but he has been a constant presence. A routine putt in the final hole of the Honda Classic 2021 has merited him with an invite to Augusta next month.

The last time Matt Jones played at the Masters was seven years ago. He won the Shell Houston Open 2014 and made a hasty trip to Augusta the very next day, but failed to make the cut.
This time around, Matt Jones has plenty of time to prepare for the prestigious Major. He’s been enjoying his striking and is ready to take on the challenge that comes along with receiving an invite to play at Augusta.
“It’s been a dream of mine. I got to play there in [2014], but to be able to go there and prep and hopefully if I’m hitting it the way I am, it’s going to be amazing. I’m probably going to go there early just to get feel for it but it’s exciting. There’s a lot that goes with this and I’m very thankful,” said Jones.
Jones carded an 8-over in 152 in his first two rounds at The 2014 Masters and unfortunately missed a chance to improve his results. But he would be determined to make a mark this time.
Jones spilled the emotions after winning The Honda Classic 2021
Matt Jones was a treat to watch at The Honda Classic 2021. He opened Round 1 with a 61 and carried the momentum heading into the weekend. His 12-stroke victory is the largest margin at the tournament and it is tied with Jack Nicklaus (1977) and Camilo Villegas (2010).
“It’s been seven years. It’s been a tough seven years. I’ve had ups and I’ve had downs, as all golfers have, but it gets me into a lot of big tournaments now,” Jones expressed.
“I mean that’s why we play every week out here. They’re very few and far between seven years for me, but it was worth the weight to win it in this golf course and in these conditions,” he added.
