Cutline probabilities at the 2021 Sanderson Farms Championship

There are around 144 players out on the field this week. But sadly, all of them will not make it to the weekend. And the organizers will impose a 36-hole cut to filter out the players, and only the top 65 players, along with the ties, will make it to the weekend. And the cutline will be confirmed after the second round on Friday.

However, the experts have already drawn a cutline based on the results of round one. So, according to data golf, the current cutline is -3. But given the course conditions and players’ performance, we can expect it to go up at -4.

Meanwhile, Country Club of Jackson is a straightforward course. It has only two inches of Bermuda/Zoysia rough, and greens are above average in size, so hitting them isn’t an issue. Moreover, water is in play only on five holes, and there are only 56 bunkers for the players to avoid. Hence, there is a 38.5% chance of cutline remaining at -3. However, there’s an equal 36% chance of it going up to -4.

Currently, the defending champion of this event, Sergio Garcia, and the 2020-21 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year Will Zalatoris are at risk of not making it the weekend. Garcia and Zalatoris both struggled their way through round one on a relatively simpler course. Meanwhile, both these players are currently at -2. Hence, they would need a good second round to get past the cutline score.
