Claressa Shields is often considered one of the best boxers ever to be a part of the sport. ‘T-Rex’ is a multiple-time world champion in three weight classes and has achieved almost everything there is in boxing. Therefore, it came as no surprise when Shields decided to try her hands at MMA as well.

Shields made her MMA debut at the PFL 4 event against Brittney Elkin and won that fight via a 3rd round TKO. Since then there has been much speculation as to when the fighter would step in the cage again.

Recently though there have been reports that Shields is scheduled to return to action very soon. According to a Tweet first put out by MMA Journalist Ariel Helwani, Shields will return to action this August.

He wrote, “Claressa Shields’ second pro-MMA fight for PFL is set for Aug. 27, per promotion officials. Opponent TBD. Shields will not box between now and then. Coincidentally, if Kayla Harrison wins on Friday and advances to the playoffs, her next fight is also scheduled for that card.”

Shields has often spoken about how she will continue boxing along with MMA. Therefore, many people expected her not to return to action so soon. However, with this latest announcement, it seems like Shields is looking to continue her MMA career with full flow.

Claressa Shields will eventually focus fully on MMA

The reason Shields doesn’t want to give up boxing or MMA is that she wants to hold world titles in both sports at the same time. Shields had talked about how all her belts are in boxing and that she would like to add an MMA belt to that. While many people think this task is impossible, there are some who believe that Shields can be the one that achieves this feat.
