Force India driver Sergio Perez reportedly said that he rejected an offer to join Renault. As of now, Renault will line up with Daniel Ricciardo alongside Nico Hulkenberg next year. However, prior to that, the Mexican nearly joined the French team.
“When you have no chance at Ferrari or Mercedes, I think Force India is a very interesting option,” he said.
Perez was involved in a move that saw Force India sold to a consortium led by Lawrence Stroll. The 28-year-old is now expecting a contract extension within the next few days.

“It’s a matter of days or weeks. The contract is there, it’s just the position of the team that must be clarified.

Prior to the Hungarian Grand Prix, the team went into administration, a move facilitated by Perez. But now, with the consortium, the team’s future looks secure as does Perez’s seat. However, his teammate, Esteban Ocon could be in danger of losing his as rumours of Lance Stroll joining, pick up.
For now, the team looks like it will survive until the end of the 2018 season. It is gratifying that the outfit will not suffer the same fate that befell HRT, Caterham and Manor Marussia. Instead, the team will persevere and continue the fight to try and stay on top of the midfield. Given the talent of both drivers, it looks like Force India have things under control.
