After a week of the formation of the Advisory Committee by BCCI, the Pakistan Cricket Board has also decided to revamp its cricket committee by including some of its former great players. A meeting for the same has been scheduled on 13th of June, of the Board of Governors, in Lahore, in which the Board will decide on the approval of the proposal of including some former players in the cricket committee.
The BCCI recently appointed an advisory committee that includes Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly & VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid had been appointed as the new coach of the Indian under-19 and A teams. A source in the PCB told PTI regarding the same, adding that – “The cricket committee is a very important part of the board but until now it has been headed by a non-cricketer, Shakil Sheikh, who is President of Islamabad Cricket Association and a member of the governing board.”
He also said that the Chairman of the board, Shahryar Khan, wishes to have more players in the committee of the Board and it should be headed by some reputed former player. The source has already quoted that “Shahryar wants more stress on quality rather than quantity and the suggestion is to reduce the number of departmental and regional teams in the premier first class tournament. There is also a proposal to have a system of demoting around four teams from the first class tournament every season on basis of performances.”
The Board is also of the view to hand over the responsibility of the junior and A teams to experienced former players. Also at times, the PCB has been mocked upon for not being able to maintain its domestic seasons well and not having a proper schedule for the same. Along with it, many a times, the players have also complained for not knowing the details of their domestic seasons, which also hampers their chances of signing contracts for foreign leagues.
