Post the win in the World Cup final against Les Bleus, several videos have gone viral on social media. Many of those videos were controversial celebration choices by Argentine goalie Emiliano Martinez. However, Messi has been quite active on social media as well.

Will Lionel Messi be on a currency note?

The Argentine soccer legend is in the news for an interesting reason. The central bank of Argentina wants to release a brand-new set of 1000 peso currency notes with Messi’s face on them.

Recently, mock-ups of the Messi 1000-peso currency note have gone viral on social media. Fans are happy but surprised at the same time to see this idea being worked on. Let’s have a look at how the fans reacted to this on social media.

While there is still a bit of banter between Messi and Ronaldo fans, it’s safe to say that every Messi fan is still in a happy place after winning the World Cup.

Whose idea was this?

A few days ago, the Argentine newspaper, El Financiero reported that this idea was proposed by a few key members of the Argentine Central Bank. But this idea was initially proposed as a joke. They later decided that this would be an excellent idea, though. Moreover, members of the Argentine Central Bank thought that this would be a good way to commemorate their country winning the World Cup.

Planning the monetary value of the Messi currency note also took some thinking. The officials were sure about the fact that the number should start with ‘10’ because that is the Argentine soccer legend’s iconic number.

The officials also plan to print ‘La Scaloneta’ on the flip side of the currency note. Lionel Scaloni, the current head coach of the Argentine national soccer team, gave the team a nickname. Also, the officials felt that it was also important to regard the efforts put in by Scaloni.

Lionel Scaloni took up the mighty task of managing Argentina’s national soccer team in 2018. The Argentine Football Association decided to part ways with Jorge Sampaoli after having a poor World Cup Campaign in 2018. However, since then, the Argentines have never looked back. Scaloni and his Argentine squad went on to win the Copa America in 2021, the CONMEBOL–UEFA Cup of Champions, and the FIFA World Cup in 2022.
