The International Olympic Committee (IOC), on Thursday, confirmed Paris and Los Angeles as the hosts of the 2024 and 2028 Summer Olympics. Both cities will join London as 3 time host cities. The hosting rights for 2024 and 2028 were announced simultaneously. The 130th IOC session let Paris, Los Angeles and their national associations to finalise their proposals. During the 131st IOC session at Lima, the 2024 and 2028 hosts were announced.
Speaking about the decisions
Thomas Bach described the announcement as a win-win-win situation for Paris, LA and the Olympic Movement.

“You were the first cities to fully benefit from the reforms of the Olympic Agenda 2020.
“It is hard to imagine something better. Ensuring the stability of the Olympic Games for the athletes of the world for the next 11 years is something extraordinary.”
Adding in, Anne Hidalgo, mayor of Paris, said:
“I am delighted to invite you to join the great family of Parisians, a family which belongs to the world.
“With this team, I am very proud and moved to bring the Games back to Paris. At the heart of these Games, we will place young people, who represent our present, our hope and our pride.”
Los Angeles mayor Eric Garcetti added:
“Bringing the Olympics back home to LA gives us the chance to imagine what our city will look like a decade from now.
“LA is a city where the Games are not a barrier to making progress; we know that they are an accelerating force to re-envisioning a better city and a better world in the days ahead as we welcome you back to the City of Angels.”

The past history of both cities with the Olympics
Paris will be hosting the games, a 100 years since it last hosted. It previously hosted the Summer Olympics in 1900 and 1924. Paris has been trying for years to secure the hosting rights for the games having submitted proposals to host the 2008 and 2012 Games. Los Angeles had hosted the games in 1932 and 1984. Los Angeles had beaten competition in USA from New York and Boston. It initially planned to host the 2024 games. Los Angeles later agreed to let Paris host the 2024 event.

The Olympics will include even more sports and disciplines. The number of participating atheletes have increased. Tokyo 2020, Paris 2024 and Los Angeles 2028 promise to be spectacular events.
