World No. 1 Novak Djokovic quashed his hopes of winning an Olympic gold medal yesterday. After losing in the singles, he lost in the mixed doubles event later that day. However, the Serb was competing in his bronze medal match against Spanish tennis player Pablo Carreno Busta.

During the match, Novak Djokovic was not up to his usual standards. As both players were engaged in a fierce battle, the Serb was wearing his heart on his sleeve. When things weren’t going his way, he lost his cool and received two warnings from the chair umpire.

At one point, he threw his racquet into the stands. Later on, when the Spaniard broke in in the third game of the deciding set, Novak broke his racquet during the change of ends. Surprisingly, for his uncalled behavior, he did not receive any penalty from the umpire. Usually, a player committing such an act receives a point penalty. His opponent was clearly dissatisfied with him not receiving a penalty.

Coming onto tennis, Djokovic was the favorite to win the tournament until his match against the German giant Alexander Zverev.
