There are several subgenres within surfing that may be explored in addition to the more commonplace regular wave and big wave styles. The imaginative minds of fans have also generated their own genres. One such activity is boat surfing, in which a rider follows a boat and rides the wave created by the vessel without being towed by it. However, have the fans ever seen a boat surfing on uncharted ocean waves? Perhaps the preceding statement best applies to this popular video that recently went viral on YouTube.

On their official YouTube page, Avenue Films posted a clip of a cigarette boat surfing. Surfing aficionados were startled to witness someone trying such a trick in a boat that costs nearly a million dollars, and the video quickly went viral.

The Mavericks fell on the same weekend that an American surfer took his boat out. The guy sailed his boat through waves that were probably no more than 15 feet high, given that Mavericks’ waves can reach heights of about 60 feet. However, 15 feet is also no laughing matter and is considered an entry-level big wave only suitable for amateur big wave surfers. Captain Booya, a guy from San Francisco, California, took his costly Donzi boat, a cigarette boat, from Ocean Beach, San Francisco, California. The video shows that the captain wasn’t alone on his trip; rather, he brought along a few passengers.

First, Captain Booya steered the ship into a swell. In order to accomplish his goal, he had to dodge several flying birds and wait for the perfect wave. After breaking the first wave he countered and landed on the sea speeding his boat up to meet the second one. When he came upon a 15-foot wave, he veered left and drove the boat vertically up the wave, sending it flying and making everyone dissolve into screams. Pete Koff filmed Captain Booya’s risky surfing escapade, and noted in the video’s caption that Booya had been drinking before attempting the feat. Except for the driver, everyone on board was injured. The boat’s hull was split in two, but the crew managed to get it back to Tiburon.

The price of a cigarette boat may vary from $22,216 for the smallest models to $943,468 for the biggest ones. Trying anything like that on a high-priced boat full of people is really unadvisable since so many things can go wrong.
