Ever since the Green Bay Packers made a Super Bowl appearance in 2011, 7 other NFC teams have reached the NFL’s summit. That’s almost half the strength of the National Football Conference.

The Packers’ last Super Bowl appearance though is a happy memory for them. It marked the beginning of a new era for the franchise. A ray of hope that there indeed is life at Green Bay following the departure of legendary quarterback Brett Favre.

And leading this shining ray of hope was a young 27-year-old quarterback named Aaron Rodgers. The future looked bright for the Packers. They’d found their next franchise quarterback who was set to rule the NFC for the years to come.

But while Rodgers has continued to set the NFC on fire with his performances, it hasn’t amounted to much for the franchise in terms of silverware.

The Green Bay Packers might be running out of time

The Green Bay Packers have dominated the NFC North division over the past couple of years. They’ve even made it to NFC Championship game 4 times since their last Super Bowl win.

But they’ve only gone on to lose all 4 rather unceremoniously. And their most recent defeat might just be the last nail in the coffin for the franchise.

Aaron Rodgers is now 37. And while he’s just coming out of a league MVP campaign, it’s no surprise that many wonder what the future has in store for the quarterback. Not just regarding his time in the league, but his time with the franchise as well.

The rumor mill was rife with speculations and whispers after Rodgers admitted that his future was “uncertain. Many believed that Aaron Rodgers has had enough. And while the QB has since come out to douse the fire, it’s no wonder that he might have felt the way he did in the wake of another crushing loss.

The franchise has simply not backed him up with the tools to get over the final hump. Not making any substantial trades over the past couple of seasons, the franchise is slowly choking Rodgers out.

Their decision to draft quarterback Jordan Love with a first-round pick in 2020 is a testament to this belief. While other teams look to further strengthen their roster, the Packers seem to be focused on picking up the building blocks for the future.

They simply cannot afford to do that when their star quarterback is playing some of the best football, he’s ever played. While other franchises make big moves in the market, the Packers seem to be content with the package they have. A package that is clearly not enough to win them another Super Bowl.

Still in a winning window, the Green Bay Packers simply must be aggressive with their recruiting strategy. They shouldn’t be focusing on a rebuild for the future when they clearly have a side that can challenge for the title with the right resources.
