Anfernee Hardaway, also famous as Penny, was drafted third in the first round of 1993. He joined the Orlando Magic just a year after Shaquille O’Neal. The two proved to be a lethal duo as they beat the Chicago Bulls in 1995 to enter the NBA Finals. Although they could not win it, an 11-YO LeBron James was perhaps somewhere getting inspired by Penny.
In an episode of NBA on TNT, Shaq claimed that Penny was like Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, and Dwyane Wade combined. He said, “Penny is a mixture of all the other guys that I have played with.” He also compared Anfernee’s passing skills to that of LeBron James. Now, the L-Train himself has shared something similar.

Penny from heaven!
Just recently, Sports Illustrated posted a picture on Instagram to wish Penny a very happy birthday. The picture they posted was the cover of SI Magazine from February 13, 1995. Both 1995, as well as 1996, were truly successful seasons for the Magic and Penny was the rising star.
Now, LeBron James also shared the same in his IG Story to wish the 4x NBA All-Star and 1996 Olympic Gold Medalist. He wrote, “YesSir!!!!! Happy Bday to one of my fav hoopers of All-Time and inspiring @iam1cent[emojis],” as Penny celebrates his 49th birthday on 18th July.
Remembering the golden era to prove why LeBron James adores him!
Earlier in May 2020, LeBron had shared yet another IG story on him. In it, a young Penny was seen making insane dunks and converting unbelievable passes. He had then said, “My God!!! My 2nd favorite player of All-time man! Literally could watch him play every night!!” So what is the reason behind this inspiration?

In 1996, Orlando Magic posted a 60-22 record which was second only next to the Bulls. In the season, Penny had an average 21.7 ppg, 7.1 apg, and 4.3 rpg. Overall, his stint with the franchise was deemed successful for the 19 points per game average that he maintained.
Later on, his playing career got shortened due to the injuries that kept on surfacing. Hardaway is surely an unsung hero of the NBA and it is really appreciable that LeBron remembers one such legend so vividly.
