Engaged in a brawl with Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg gains an edge over his foe with his latest move. The Meta CEO released Threads, a text-based social media app that has since become a rage. In a brief time, the app has gained millions of users and is being billed as a Twitter killer. This is another chess move in a rivalry that is being fought on every front now. But does Threads have the potential to kill Twitter effectively?

The ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong strongly believes so. The numbers also back his claim. Threads signed up 30 million users within a day. To put things into perspective, it took Twitter 780 days to reach 10 million users. Further, the analytics firm Similarweb projects Threads is on the pace to exceed 100 million users within two months. These mindboggling numbers still don’t come near to Zuckerberg’s ambitions. Will Threads leap over Twitter? Sityodtong has listed plausible reasons.

The 52-year-old turned to his Threads account and declared Threads to take over Twitter. Not only he believes Threads will be the new global town square but also a “more real” and less toxic place.

He wrote, “i predict that threads will overtake twitter as the global town square. people enjoy real communities, real conversations, and real people. no one wants the anonymous toxicity, fake bots, scams, etc. that twitter fosters. @zuck has nailed it once again.”

In reply to a fan, the Thai entrepreneur added, “it just feels like threads is more real (so far)…”

Likewise, in another response, Sityodtong gave reasons for his projection. He penned, “less fake accounts, less spam, less bots, less senseless toxicity”.

These are the issues that have plagued Twitter since time immemorial and despite the platform exchanging ownership last year, Musk has done little to fix those.

Sityodton’s thread also resonates with the vision Zuckerberg had when he launched Threads. Presenting the Threads to the world, the Facebook CEO announced, “There should be a public conversations app with 1 billion people on it.”

Besides, he took a jibe at his Tesla counterpart as he asserted, “Twitter has had the opportunity to do this but hasn’t nailed it. Hopefully we will.”

As expected, the popularity of Threads hasn’t escaped the keen eyes of the wealthiest man on the planet. He has threatened to sue the platform for engaging former Twitter employees and releasing a duplicate product, Threads.
