Demetrious Johnson will be joining forces with his former opponent Henry Cejudo ahead of his flyweight title rematch against Adriano Moraes at ONE 161. ‘Mighty Mouse‘ talked about ‘The Messenger‘ returning to active MMA competition after taking a three-year hiatus.

In an interview with MMAFighting, the 12-time world champion discussed the former UFC dual champion returning to action inside the Octagon and potentially fighting UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling and UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski. Besides, he revealed why he would team up with his former rival.

“He’s [Henry Cejudo] very intelligent and so, I think if he was to fight Aljamain Sterling, I think he opposes a lot of problems to Aljamain Sterling. Because one his wrestling his legit, his hands are legit and Henry Cejudo, he’s a gamer. Like he’ll go out there, and he’s gonna push the pace. And you know, try to win the fight.”

“Obviously, right now, Henry Cejudo’s got that dad bod. So, he’s gonna have to, you know, shred all that baby weight, and I’m sure he can do it,” the 35-year-old said.

Johnson also revealed he has bought a place in Arizona, where Henry Cejudo trains at Fight Ready MMA gym. Thus, he would be putting two weeks of training with his former opponent, whom he respects, and is 1-1 in their two-match series.

‘Mighty Mouse’ also gave his opinion about ‘Triple C‘ moving to the featherweight division to challenge Alexander Volkanovski.

The 12-time world champion has spent six rounds with ‘Triple C’. Thus, he understands how capable the former UFC dual champion is.

Since the Olympian has talked about moving to the featherweight division, ‘Mighty Mouse’ broke down the potential matchup and said, “I think that’s gonna be a harder thing to do, because Volkanovski is, I think, the bigger guy. And Volkanovski has been more active, and I think the weight discrepancy is going to be there for Volkanovski.”

Johnson added, “Do I think Henry Cejudo has the talent and the skillset and the mindset to beat Volkanovski? Absolutely, it’s a fight.”

After describing how ‘The Great’ has transitioned from an athlete to a complete martial artist with his exceptional run in the featherweight division, ‘Mighty Mouse’ pointed out the biggest hurdle for Cejudo.

“He’s gonna have to battle pretty much an identical split version of him, in my opinion,” said Demetrious Johnson.
