Takeru is widely hailed as one of the greatest kickboxers in history, so his promotional debut–in a massive World Title fight on a blockbuster card–comes with no shortage of hype. With that said, let’s dive into three of the 32-year-old’s most dangerous weapons.
Well before he was a multiple-division Kickboxing World Champion, Takeru developed his venomous striking game with a foundation in karate. A hallmark of that art is an active and dynamic lead leg – a trademark of Team Vasileus’s electrifying brand of striking.
Whether he’s throwing a piercing front snap kick to his foe’s gut, an off-balancing push kick, or a tenderizing kick to the leg, Takeru keeps his opponents guessing as to what will come next. What’s more, these kicks typically set up the show-stopping knockout.
“The Natural Born Crusher” boasts perhaps the best boxing in all of kickboxing, with the vast majority of his 25 career knockouts scored by way of punches. Working behind a bevy of fakes and feints, Takeru loves to back his opponents into the ropes where he unleashes on them complex and concussive punching combinations. Those combinations are often punctuated by one of two key punches: a thunderous left hook or a massive overhand right.

However, this isn’t all that the Japanese megastar has in his bag of skills. Takeru has a very underrated trait which helps him set up for his highlight reel finishes.

Takeru will undoubtedly invest in bodywork early and often against Superlek. Throughout his impressive, 46-fight professional career, the Yonago City native has shown a propensity for devastating his opponents with a variety of strikes to the midsection.
From big shovel hooks to rib-crunching knees, to classic roundhouse kicks, Takeru loves to punish his foe’s body. And while all of those strikes certainly have fight-ending potential, they typically act to draw his opponent’s guard down, ultimately setting up the knockout blow.
Given how skilled Takeru Segawa is inside the ring, what are his odds of winning the ONE Flyweight Kickboxing World Title in his debut? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
