Despite gracefully entering retirement, Australian Muay Thai legend John Wayne Parr continues to follow ONE Championship because of the massive pool of talent on its roster, and he’s excited about an upcoming battle between two of the best strikers on the planet today.

John Wayne Parr breaks down Tawanchai vs. Superbon at ONE Fight Night 15

At ONE Fight Night 15 on Friday, October 6, ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Champion Tawanchai PK Saenchai will defend his throne against former featherweight kickboxing king Superbon Singha Mawynn. In a recent interview with ONE Championship, “The Gunslinger” offered his opinion on Tawanchai’s dominant reign at the top of his division, and he praised the Thai superstar for the limb-smashing power he showcased in his two World Title defenses so far.”Tawanchai’s form in his last two fights, stopping two different people by devastating kicks is just like, yeah, that’s unheard of. To break bones is just brutal,” he said.

“His power’s insane. I’ve seen a lot of Thais train, I’ve been in camp for a long time, and then seeing him hit the pads in the Singapore hotel was just… The reality is, wow, this kid’s not normal. What he possesses is very unique.” Parr had as much admiration for the man that will challenge the World Champion’s reign next month when breaking down the fight, however. And for good reason Superbon has been one of the best pound-for-pound kickboxers in the world for years, and he’s known for his jaw-dropping head kick knockouts–like the one he scored against Tayfun Ozcan at ONE Fight Night 11 this past June. He will compete in his first Muay Thai contest in the world’s largest martial arts organization when he meets Tawanchai, and Parr believes the Singha Mawynn fighter will be able to carry over some of his key weapons.

“Timing, power, and experience. He’s got every tick box ticked as well. He’s so elite, and one crucial mistake can be the end of the fight in the blink of an eye,” he said. “He waits for the opponent to start the combination first, knowing that his hands will be down as he executes to land his hands, then land the head kick,” he continued. “It’s hard to teach experience. It’s impossible to teach experience. You have to be there and do it hundreds of times to know exactly when to execute. So yeah, Superbon’s got that gift.”

The matchup is too close for the Australian kickboxer to pick a winner

Considering the strengths of both competitors, Parr couldn’t pick a definitive winner. But if he’s certain of anything, it’s that the battle will produce fireworks that fans around the globe, especially those watching live and for free on Prime Video in North America, shouldn’t miss. “Either way, they’re both as amazing as each other, so yeah, one mistake on either side is going to decide who wins or not,” Parr said.

“It’s going to be violent. It’s going to be so crazy. Two top, elite Thais against each other is such an amazing chance to showcase proper, real Muay Thai, champion versus champion for the Westerners that haven’t seen this competitive sort of level before. They take so much damage and don’t show any emotion. It’s going to be very, just brutal. It’s going to be awesome. It’s going to be so much fun.”
