The American grappling sensation has scored back-to-back finishes in his two outings in ONE Championship, and he plans to tap out the ONE Middleweight World Champion in their submission grappling showcase at the Singapore-based promotion’s debut U.S. on-ground event at 1stBank Center in Colorado on Friday, May 5.
Tye Ruotolo believes that he has a better D’arce choke than his opponent Renier De Ridder
Speaking to ONE Championship, Ruotolo said, “It’s going to be a crazy match. A little bit of a David and Goliath situation. So, I’m excited to take him down and show the true essence of what jiu-jitsu is all about – going for the kill no matter the size of your opponent.”
A trademark submission that both superstars favor is the D’arce choke, and Ruotolo feels he’ll be able to sink it in against the man known as one of the finest tacticians of the submission in mixed martial arts.
Ruotolo shared, “I plan on D’Arcing him. I know he has a good D’Arce choke, and I definitely want to show him how it’s done correctly. I think it might take a couple of minutes, but I think the D’Arce is the way I want to get him.”

Looking for a D’arce choke – a maneuver that requires an athlete to wrap one of their arms around their opponent’s neck – might not come easy against De Ridder due to his strong defensive game on the canvas.
Tye Ruotolo also intended to bring his submission-hunting game into play
But with plenty of options to enter and go for unorthodox variations of the arm-triangle choke, Ruotolo knows he holds an advantage over his Dutch foe. If it doesn’t fall into place, though, the 20-year-old will be more than happy to jump on any other lethal submission he has in his arsenal.

Ruotolo added, “I’ll take anything though. I’m a submission hunter. Whatever comes my way, I’ll take first. I’m not going to pass it up. He’s a tough guy, so I’m not going to be choosy out here.”
