ONE Women’s Atomweight MMA World Champion, Stamp Fairtex, was originally scheduled to defend her title against her good friend and opponent, Denice Zamboanga, at ONE 167. Unfortunately, due to a knee injury, Stamp has been forced to withdraw from the fight. Consequently, Fairtex’s absence threw a wrench into ONE 167’s plan.

Now, ONE 167 is headlined by Tawanchai vs. Nattawut 2. This change creates a big question for the organization and fans. Originally, Stamp Fairtex was the main event due to her popularity. However, her injury likely dampens the hype a bit. In a video uploaded on Instagram, Stamp was spotted revealing the cause of her injury. Moreover, she encouraged fans not to be disappointed while urging them to enjoy the fight.

Stamp Fairtex reveals her injury updates

Stamp Fairtex, the first three-sport champion, successfully underwent surgery to repair her torn meniscus. While her recovery will require several months, before the surgery, Stamp gave an interview revealing how she tore her knee. “It happened during sparring. My sparring partner was smaller than me and was on my back. He tried to lift me, but when he did, my legs were still on the ground,” she explained. She also affirmed realizing the impact of her injury at that very moment because of the sound of twisting bones.

“He turned me around,” the three-sport world champion said, adding, “And while twisting me, I sprained my knee. There was a loud pop, so I stopped immediately. I went to the hospital and found out I had a torn meniscus. I can’t fight and need surgery as soon as possible.” Later in the video, the interviewer asked Stamp about her reaction when she found out she wouldn’t be fighting at ONE 167.  Stamp Fairtex became emotional as she shared, “I cried when the doctor called. He told me I needed a long break. I cried in my room, and I was even crying while brushing my teeth when the doctor called.

Undoubtedly, Stamp Fairtex’s absence from the ONE 167 arena is a significant blow to both ONE and the fans. Stamp is a major draw for the organization, and for Denice Zamboanga, it was a golden opportunity to dethrone the champion and claim the title belt. However, Denice’s recent Instagram post reveals she’s more concerned about Stamp’s well-being than the fight itself.

Beyond this fight, Stamp Fairtex and Denice Zamboanga are known for their remarkable friendship, which makes them even more compelling as rivals. Despite missing out on her title shot, Zamboanga recently took to Instagram to express her concern for her opponent’s well-being. She wished Stamp a speedy recovery with a heartfelt caption: “Let’s pray for a fast recovery for our champ.”

Zamboanga’s post also caught the attention of fans and other Muay Thai and martial arts professionals. Notable people like Nat “Wondergirl” Jaroonsak offered her support and well wishes. This is unfortunately the second time Zamboanga has missed a world title opportunity. Following Stamp Fairtex’s withdrawal, Denice Zamboanga, the #2 ranked contender, has been matched with rising MMA star Noelle Grandjean. Grandjean is coming off a win by unanimous decision.
