In the past few years, Rodtang Jitmuangnon has helped elevate the sport of Muay Thai to new levels in the global consciousness, and he believes his compatriot, Stamp Fairtex, can do the same for mixed martial arts in their home country of Thailand.

The ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion will be one of the millions watching Stamp attempt to make history by becoming ONE’s first three-sport World Champion when she battles Ham Seo Hee for the ONE Interim Women’s Atomweight MMA World Title in the main event of ONE Fight Night 14 this Friday, September 29.

Despite the growing popularity of MMA around the world, ‘The Art of Eight Limbs’ is, unsurprisingly, still king when it comes to combat sports in Thailand. However, ‘The Iron Man’ believes more people from his home country have embraced the all-encompassing sport because of Stamp’s rise in the world’s largest martial arts organization. And he thinks it will be magnified further if the former atomweight Muay Thai and kickboxing queen lifts the coveted strap this Friday. “Stamp’s success will inspire everyone because she will be a role model for them to achieve success like her. I think MMA will be more popular in Thailand because of her,” Rodtang told ONE in a recent interview.

“If Stamp becomes an MMA World Champion, she will be the best role model for our next generation. And she will be a good example for everyone who wants to succeed in MMA like her. She may even inspire women around the world to practice martial arts.” Rodtang has dabbled in a bit of MMA himself. At ONE X in March last year, he figured in a special mixed-rules contest against the legend of the sport, Demetrious Johnson.

And earlier this month, he was seen honing his grappling skills, which may hint that the 26-year-old could eventually transition as Stamp did. Given his experience, he understands just how good Stamp is. The Thai megastar won the ONE Women’s Atomweight World Grand Prix tournament in 2021 and came close to beating the longtime divisional queen Angela Lee when she challenged her at ONE X. “Switching from striking only to grappling is difficult for me,” he said. “You need to get used to it. And you need to dedicate yourself to practicing the ground game. It will take time to master it,” Rodtang said.

Ham Seo Hee poses a great threat to Stamp Fairtex’s ambitions

Stamp’s road to three-division glory will be far from a cakewalk this Friday night. Standing in her way will be a veteran of MMA in Ham. With over a decade and a half of experience, a nine-fight winning streak, and multiple accolades to her name, “Hamzzang” will be fully motivated to win the biggest prize of her career yet.

When pressed to make a prediction on the upcoming main event matchup, Rodtang said he is torn on who he thinks will win. “For the Stamp vs. Ham Seo Hee matchup, I give them each 50-50 odds,” he offered.
